I enjoy your site. Do you know anything about the history the Carter families of Cornwall? Are they of Celtic decent? Any information will be appreciated! Thank you.

I have traced my mothers family to St.Just 1 mile north of Land's End. they are Bennetts, Hocking, Eddy, James, Tonkin. My great GGrandfather Stephen Eddy and his spouse Margaret Bennetts arr, in South Australia on the "China" in 1847 and went to Burra to work the copper mines there, later about 8000 cornish worked under terrible conditions with low wages and no housing, they dug holes in the Burra Creek and made that their homes, until gold was discovered in Victoria, in 1851 and almost everybody moved there, either by Horse and Dray or walked. Many of the cornish people remained there, mainly in Ballarat and Bendigo.

ROSLYN in Los Angeles,Calif. at 23:38:16 Monday August 14 2000
Just spent 3 weeks in Devon & Cornwall. Always loved the Devon area, that is until we discovered Cornwall on this trip in June. Polperro & Fowey were our favorite places. Hopefully we will be able to return next May. Is there a train station in Par? If so, we would like to take train there from London, and pick up a rental car in the area. Anyone familiar with this? I think on last trip I picked a most difficult route...from Paddington we caught tube to Waterloo Station and on to Yeovil where we picked up car and then drove to Sidmouth. Is there a easier way than that? We would like to spend few days in Sidmouth and then on to Fowey by car. Any suggestions appreciated. By the way it is 97 in Los Angeles right now. SO HOT!!

Great web site Alan. I lived in England for the first 18 years of my life and remember many great holidays in Cornwall. Mevagissey and Par Beach (The spelling may be off but you probably know what I mean!) The majority of my family still live in England, Warks., W. Midlands and Somerset, among others. Oh yeah, GO COVENTRY CITY!!! See ya!

Alan, Alright my 'ansome'? Great website! I moved from Nazeing, Essex in 1964 to Truro and spent the most wonderful teenage years there, going to school at Penwethers and my apprenticeship at RNAS Culdrose, Helston. Now I live in the USA and miss all my friends and the sights and sounds of Cornwall - most of all the pasties! Although most people might consider me to be from 'up country' my heart is really Cornish. I was so pleased to find that there are so many cousin jacks here in the state of Michigan! Keep up the good work with all things Cornish.

Hi Alan, Thanks for a great site - much appreciated. I was born in Falmouth in 1940. My dad, Douglas Richards, and his two brothers, Eddy and Mike, were chief engineers on the Falmouth Tugboats for most of their working lives. Sadly, all three have been dead for many years. I am a writer and interested in anyone who had connections with, or memories of the tugs between 1940 and 1979. Please email me. It would be good to hear from you. Di

Having lived in Cornwall for 10 years until 1995, I'm afraid the most exciting thing about it for me was the A30 (the way out) and in the end had to move to civilisation (as you seem to have done) in order to retain my sanity and obtain employment which offered a living salary. It's a fine place for a holiday but terrible place to live. Congratulations on a very good website
