Fred in Victoria, Australia at 13:51:29 Friday December 27 2002
Hello, I was wondering if anyone could help me. My father's family, like a lot of others, emigrated to Australia during the 19th century. However, since no-one in my immediate family has travelled to Cornwall, we are unaware of the history, meaning or altogether any other facets of our surname, Trevaskis. Since we literally lie on the other face of the world, I was hoping someone could shed some light on the surname, or alternatively, any other reading materials relating to regional surnames. Thank you for your time, Fred

I was born In Butte Montana and spent a lot of time there growing up. My Grandmother, 96 and still very much alive still lives there. She taught me the art of making pasties. Although the traditional pasty was just meat, potato and onion she taught me to make what she termed "gourmet" pasties. the crust was made with real lard and along with the usual ingredients she would add sliced carrots and parsley. I will also add that as the years progressed and her family blossomed from one grandchild to 8 she invented the pasty pie - well maybe not quite - but rather than spend a whole day in the kitchen making 30+ pasties she started making pasty pies - same ingredients - same crust - just in the form of a pie. My best memories are of eating grandmother's cold pasties the day after with ketchup! Bake on!

Hello and thanks for your site which is great. I sent a message earlier about my family research and received a lot oh help as a result. Now I am trying to find some information about my Grandmother Edith Lillian Middlewick who married my grandfather in St Austell after WW1. He was an Australian soldier who met Edith whilst on leave from France and returning to visit his own ancestral home in St Austell/St Blazey. Edith is listed in the 1901 census for Tywardreath in a family headed by Fanny Middlewick aged 34 widow. I am trying to find out about the husband of Fanny who must have died in 1900/1901. If anyone knows of Middlewicks in the area of St Austell/Tywardreath could you please contact me? Many thanks Leigh Hobba

Some years ago we had a fabulous trip to Cornwall. We were lucky enough to be at a hotel for dinner one evening, where later, in the lounge, a men's choir joined us, after its rehearsal in another room, and continued singing for quite awhile. One song was about "10,000 Cornishmen knowing the reason why". We always look for traditional music wherever we go and we certainly hit the jack box this time!! Greetings from me and my husband Norman, Canadian and Australian Americans.

Hi - We are trying to trace Jacqueline Baxter, who left Galashiels in the Scottish Borders in the late 60's / early 70's and moved to Redruth. The last we heard was from a relative of Jacqui's who has lost touch. They thought that she had gone to work in Italy and married an Italian and settled there. Can anyone help? This seems like a great site for information!

Pleased to see you're back "on line". Am seeking info on Edith Maud Allan who was born in or around Wookey, Somerset on 26/8/1903 and together with parents emigrated to Australia, date unknown. Info on parents or any other relatives would be appreciated. She married John (Jack) Thomas Ward possibly in the 1920s in Australia. He came originally from Winchester, Hampshire, UK.

I work in a bookshop in Padstow, during a recent tidy up we have unearthed a photo album, it is clearly of Cornish origin, and we would like ideally to reunite it with it's family. The only clues we have are the names, Prisk, Davey and Gundrey. There are over 100 pictures, taken at various photographers in Devon, Cornwall, Mineral Point Wis, Valparaiso Chile, if you need further information please contact me at the above address
